Enjoy A Tour! The Outdoor Living Area of Joshua and Heidi Friedlander

Enjoy the backstory and take a tour of the beautiful outdoor living area of Joshua and Heidi Friedlander, whose new home is in the beautiful master planned community of Summerlin, Nevada, nestled against the Red Rock National Conservation Area.

This wonderful story is being brought to you courtesy of Joshua and Heidi Friedlander, who graciously sent us these images and then allowed us to interview them about their experience with our company, after having purchased several items from our collections of indoor/outdoor furniture.

Joshua and Heidi’s story of how they came to live in Summerlin starts with their quest to find a city where they could enjoy a year round outdoor living lifestyle and a place where their 3 grown children, now all in their 20’s, would also enjoy visiting.

After having lived in a center hall Colonial in New York, Joshua, the head of human resources for an international law firm and his wife, Heidi, decided it was to time to start looking for their *forever* home.

Although Heidi swore she would never live in Las Vegas, when they flew out for a visit, they fell in love with Summerlin, a prestigious master planned community just outside of Las Vegas, with breathtaking vistas in every direction.

Joshua, who normally travels 350,000 miles a year for his job as the human resources director for an international law firm, also needed to be near an airport with excellent connections, and Summerlin provided them with every amenity they desired.

{A fun sidenote? Joshua loves to explore vegan restaurants when he travels, and told us that there is a great one in Bonn, Germany – ask him about it in the comments!}

So, having decided on Summerlin, Heidi and Joshua purchased their property and house plan from Toll Brothers, loving that they would not have to build a home from scratch ( a project they didn’t want to undertake ) but also enjoying knowing there were hundreds of personalized customization options open to them.

They didn’t bring any of their furniture with them from New York, but started from scratch, purchasing everything for their *forever* home with the original guidance of retail store owner, Joanne Tatem of Urban Chic Furniture, and then with the guidance of their Las Vegas based interior designer, Cary Vogel, whom they are still working with now.

Because Joshua and Heidi had being able to live outside as much as possible as their foremost objective when designing their home, they knew that buying the right outdoor furnishings would be their number one priority.

When asked why they chose Seasonal Living over all other brands available to them, this is what Heidi told us:

Joshua further elaborated by saying they “loved the simplistic beauty of the forms and how the textural contrast of the rope fit in so beautifully with the desert motif.”

Speaking of the rope…

After falling in love with the hand finished venetian like plaster finish of our SENZA concrete dining table, from our PERPETUAL collection, Joshua and Heidi noticed how roughly finished the concrete columns were, in the same area.

Being sticklers for beauty and the details of design, they made an unusual request of our customer service department:

“Could they order 3000 feet of the same rope that was used on their dining chairs, (from our EXPLORER Oceans collection ) so they could cover their columns in it, too, to coordinate with the chairs?”

This was a first for us, but we asked our supplier, and they agreed to ship us 3000 feet of rope, to send to Heidi and Josh for the wrapping of their columns.

And as you can see below, the result is breathtaking! And kudos to the team they hired that hand wrapped each column so perfectly – not an easy job!

Also important to Joshua and Heidi was having a beautiful flow from indoors to outdoors and their interior designer, Cary Vogel, made sure they did. Notice the flooring.

And now, Joshua and Heidi along with their children and friends, can enjoy fun, relaxing evenings of music, swimming, food and entertaining outside – during all 4 seasons of the year – to watch the sun melt at the end of another crystal clear day in Summerlin.

Asked what led Joshua to being willing to send us pictures and to be interviewed for this post, he said,

“When we originally received our furniture, there were a few issues.” When I called your customer service department, I got immediately through to Gary Pettitt, the owner, who took perfect care of me. Every issue I had was resolved in such a professional manner. He stood behind his product and was extremely responsive. Even a year later, he was still willing to help me. I can’t say enough good things about Seasonal Living and their customer service.”
