Seasonal Living Magazine – Summer 2022 is live and ready for your viewing pleasure. This issue celebrates the best of seasonal living “summer-style”. From outdoor adventures to fresh fruit recipes, we hope to inspire you to get the most out of indoor|outdoor living this season. Our cover features pieces from our PROVENANCE SIGNATURE COLLECTION by Laura Muller. In fact, the photo was styled by Laura herself at her California home. These stylish and durable products are perfect for creating an “indoor” space outdoors.
WHAT’S INSIDE
As always, we strive to bring you the best in seasonal living. In this issue, we head to the Pacific Northwest with a travel guide for you to enjoy the cooler, lush, green surroundings of the region. While you are there, practice a little forest bathing. You’ll find all of the information you need on page 19. For your culinary adventures, we offer two cherry recipes. Make them for your next gathering. Be sure to check out our tips on carefree entertaining to make it a little easier on yourself. Lastly, to quench your summer design thirst, see our design section featuring two indoor|outdoor projects.
ADVENTURE IN THE PNW
The Pacific Northwest is a truly unique region. Stunning coastlines, majestic mountains, and dense forests are broken up by thriving cities with everything to offer. For adventure seekers and nature lovers, this is an ideal area to vacation. For foodie types, it is absolute paradise. Our travel guide takes you through Oregon, Washington, and into the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. Pack your bags (and maybe your hiking boots) and make your way to the PNW to reconnect with nature.
CHERRIES ARE BACK
The wait is over! Cherry season has returned.
As one of our favorites, we wanted to inspire you to use these seasonal delights in new ways. Cherries are often used in sweet dishes, but far less often in savory ones. To give you some options, this issue features two cherry recipes. See our Lamb Chops with Cherry Balsamic Glaze and Herbed Polenta and Dark Chocolate Cherry and Pistachio Tartlets.
Both recipes are very easy to make and the results are wonderful. You’ll also find the recipes easily adaptable. The lamb chops, for example, could be easily replaced with salmon, chicken, or a plant-based protein. If you don’t love dark chocolate, use milk chocolate instead… or hazelnuts instead of pistachios.
CAREFREE ENTERTAINING
The entertaining section of the summer 2022 edition of Seasonal Living Magazine focuses on carefree entertaining tips. Summer is a great time for outdoor entertaining. We want to help you enjoy it as much as your guests. We have your checklist to take the stress out of entertaining and still be the host with the most. See our list of food & drink and ambiance tips starting on page 17.
FOREST BATHING
Inspired by our Pacific Northwest focus for this edition, we delve into the practice of forest bathing. The concept is gaining popularity in the US as people look for ways to reduce stress and connect with nature. Our article provides you with basic information about forest bathing, how you can get started, how you can learn more, and the proven health benefits.
DESIGN DISCOVERY
For our design section, we remained in the Pacific Northwest with two delightful indoor|outdoor projects. These two projects, one commercial and one residential, highlight the best in seasonal living by creating spaces that blur the lines between interior and exterior.
From Portland, Garrison Hullinger shares his project for the common spaces of a residential building. His thoughtful (and clever) approach to the spaces transformed what was little more than a dog relief area into several gathering spaces to improve the quality of life for the building’s many residents.
Next, see the before and after story of a dismal farmhouse with incredible potential, unleashed by designer Juli Hodgson of Hodgson Design Associates in British Columbia. The stunning result is a bright, modern, family home with seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors.
